Still Single…When the life you imagined never came….Part 2

As the years have passed, I’ve had to come to terms with my plan, God’s plan, and life itself. I’ve realized that our best-laid plans are often just that—ours. In surrendering to God’s plan, which at times seems unknown because the entire roadmap isn’t always laid out before you, it requires faith and trust solely in Him.

This is often the opposite of our logic and our desires. Surrendering to God’s plan means laying down your own and seeking His direction. He is the captain of the ship in our lives, and we find His guidance through prayer, reading His word, and being present in our local church body. Deuteronomy 4:29 promises that if you seek the Lord your God with all your heart and soul, you will find Him. We also read in Psalm 37:23 (New King James Version), ‘The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way.’

These scriptures speak to God’s promise of guidance as we seek Him with our whole heart, and this has been my experience. I will not pretend this is simply ‘running in a field of tulips.’ Often, this journey requires patience, much difficulty, and even confusion at times as your desires battle God’s. There are moments when you try to rewrite the script or make decisions that take you down a completely different path, only to then try to get back on God’s.

But God is faithful and full of grace to guide us back to His will as we fully trust in Him. In the most difficult spaces in our lives—where we think nothing is happening, nothing is changing, or the mountain is impossibly high—it is here where God meets us, strengthens us, encourages us, and gives us the steps needed along the way.

As I look back over the years, it’s sobering to see where decisions I thought were minor and no big deal turned out to be some of the turning points in my life. Oh, how I would have missed out had God not directed my feet!

Coming out on the other side, you realize that had you lived your own plan, it would have truly altered not just your life but so many others, as in God’s economy, it is not only about us.

Our single hope must be in Jesus!
